Crystal and I live in San Francisco. We love the city and wanted to share a few of the things that we like to do together. Think of this as an insiders guide to the city.
P.S. The picture to the left is from Bay-to-Breakers, one of our favorite events to do together. Participants at Bay-to-Breakers dress up as something. Try and guess what we are and let us know what you think when you see us. Hint: It’s weather related and specific to a SF phenomenon.
Food
Crystal made a map of some of our favorite SF food spots. Keep it bookmarked in case you find yourself near one of our favorites. I added notes about the places so if you’re into it look for pro-tips.
If you want to plan something super special: Make a reservation well in advance (like a full month). The best spots fill up! But don’t worry, there’s plenty of spots in the moment.
Ferry Building
Every Saturday morning from about 8 AM to 2 PM the Ferry Building has a big farmers market and it’s one of our favorite things to do together. Check out Acme bread in the Ferry Building and explore behind the Ferry Building for the farmers market. There’s plenty of food for breakfast, lunch and shopping.
Favorite SF Landmarks
Camera Obscura (Where Gabe proposed)
Land’s End
Golden Gate Park
De Young’s Observation Tower
Crissy Field
Andy Goldsworthy’s Presidio Lover’s Lane
SFMOMA
Castro Theater
Outside the City
Muir Woods
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and enter Marin County to see the redwood tree groves in Muir Woods National Park. You’ll need a car to get there or take a shuttle since there’s no cell coverage out there. It’s some of the best nature experiences. If you do drive then be sure to get your parking well in advance since it does sell out and you’ll get turned away if you don’t plan ahead for the parking. It’s pretty remote but only about 30 minutes North of the SF.
Napa Valley
If you’re into wine, and you have to be if you live in the SF Bay Area since the local craft beer is terrible, then be sure to check out Napa Valley. I’ve only been once so far but it was pretty awesome. You can probably find a guided tour from SF to make the trip easy but it’s only a 2 hour drive with traffic.
Special Events
Did ya know that SF has these things:
Symphony
Check out there calendar here.
Theater
Crystal and I try to catch something every year. I don’t think there are any theater events during the week of our wedding but keep an eye on the list for other events happening in the city like comedy shows and music events.
SF Giants
Looks like they aren’t in town on the weekend of the our wedding but if you hang around the week after then catch a game! We usually see the Milwaukee Brewers and try to catch when the Dodgers are in town since that’s a big rivalry and I like to see the Dodgers lose :)
